OEM New-In-Box Tecumseh Recoil Starter fits perfectly!
For an older lawnmower (mine is a 1993 Ariens 21" Series 911, with a Tecumseh VLV55 engine) being able to find original parts from the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), like this new in-the-box "old-stock" item I found on eBay, is the best way to ensure the part will do the job dependably. I tried three after-market recoil starters that stated (claimed) they were the "replacement" for the Tecumseh 590686 unit - - they are wrong, they are NOT the same. Does the Job, Slight Challenge to Install
The starter fit my Craftsman mower very well and it works great. I had two small issues. First, the first starter I received had defective fingers that grip the mower spindle, so I had to get a replacement. Second, when installing the starter, and slip on the starter cord could result in the cord retracting inside the reel--I think this could be a real hassle. Luckily, I was careful enough.
