Nice build quality, installed easily, shifts great after set up. Used it as a big upgrade on a kid's bike, but would ride it happily myself. Not as light or trick as newer or higher end deraileurs, but an awesome value for a 7-9 speed mountain bike.

The device lacks a barrel adjustment. This makes it very hard to adjust indexed shifting. It also lacks sealed bearing pulleys. I replaced the indexed shifter with a friction shifter and replaced the pulleys with a pair of sealed bearing pulleys. I cannot recommend this item for indexed shifting. Otherwise, it is a well made, precise shifting tool. Sealed bearing pulleys are just smoother. They are not essential, but "weight weenies" will appreciate the minimalist watt savings over standard pulleys, and they usually come with Deore rear derailleurs.

This product was bought to replace a damaged M-591. Installed easily. I had to shorten the last run of housing and the cable due to the different connecting position. This unit keeps the chain tighter and shifts with a slightly different feel at the shifter than the old one, but the shifting is tight and precise and I like it after 8 or 10 trail rides.
