This rivals it's contenders
This is a No-Frills transmitter with no bells and whistles...but performance is excellent for a transmitter of this size.
This is a very well thought out piece of kit (again...despite it's looks) and very cleverly put together as a plug-and-play unit.
I do like the idea of the heat-sink and fan all being so compact to cool the unit down as in theory and practical terms, it makes perfect obvious sense.
Let's look at the performance:
There are three buttons just below the display of which the middle button is to select the frequency/ volume/ and power and the other left and right buttons are to select the + and - to increase or decrease the power output/ volume and frequency (up and down) also the SWR reading is also displayed to ensure that you have a constant reading of any possible aerial issues.
There are two inputs for audio and a microphone although there is no pre-emphasis so a good processor is required for compression and a limiter. (Stereotool is a good option)
Output power can be adjusted from 5-10-20-30W and the transmitter is very stable on all frequencies used.
Using a good aerial on the full 30W can easily reach a 15+ mile radius of clear stereo reception.
The harmonics only interfere with LOW powered radio stations within a 10-15 meter radius and normal radio stations for your area when using the transmitter are unaffected.
The only downside is that you cannot use an RDS encoder of which may or may not bother some people.
VERDICT:
This may not be the most attractive looking piece of kit and it may be simply a 'bare-bone' plug and play unit...however, it's power output and performance is impressive for it's size and cannot be faulted...YES there is better out there at more than five times the price, but never judge a book by it's cover as this transmitter delivers very well indeed for it's compact size.
