Post-CHICAGO Kander and Ebb
Kander and Ebb are perhaps best known for two blockbuster works, CABARET and CHICAGO, although together they also produced some interesting lesser-known works for Broadway. THE VISIT, based on the Durrenmatt play, was sadly the final work developed before the passing of lyricist Fred Ebb, and it is also one of the last recordings of British actor Roger Rees before his untimely passing. On the plus side, the recording features the always excellent Chita Rivera in the lead role, although her voice is obviously not as strong as it was for earlier K&E shows. The pieces themselves are a mixed bag, with nothing standing out memorably. The quality of the recording itself is good, and listeners will get a good feel for the entire staged work through the liner notes.
