Lift assist or strain yourself
I purchased this unit with the desire to reduce the load weight when lifting the gate. With the springs enclosed and assisting the lift I wish I had gotten this earlier. I had seen other trailers with these units and decided to get them to reduce the lift weight. I recently had hernia surgery and have no desire to do that again!! Reducing the lift weight is extremely important otherwise you may consider trading the trailer in for a tilt trailer or perhaps dropping a heavy ramp and use lightweight aluminum portable ramps. Once you have properly installed the unit using your trailer will be so much easier !
The degree of difficulty was higher than I had anticipated but I managed to install the unit . I suggest anyone installing this type of equipment have lots of mechanical skills as well as good drills and an assortment of good drill bits . It might be even wiser to have it installed by a professional . This had good instructions with it, but they did send all the same sized washers, half should have been for the larger bolts. Other then that everything was great ! Spring assist lift gate
This a very positive review This item is well made, but it doesn’t work with a lift gate that is spring assisted. The placement of the cables on the gate doesn’t matter as the lift springs will not let the gate stay on the ground, the gate stays level with the trailer bed.
