I decided to purchase this book after seeing it in Borders on a whim. Since it had to deal with UConn and a girl who's boyfriend's name is Patrick, I decided to give it a shot. However, once I started reading this book, it went from good to well.. mediocre to terrible. The main character's inability to keep on track once she realizes she wants to get a degree in the mid-1990s is mind boggling. She's not burnt out, but she is rather dull and inable to continue with what she wants. Once she falls into the trap that is Patrick, she becomes one-dimensional and beyond boring. The book drags until she realizes why she's so confused about something within her family, which isn't even completely described. The book's climax and resolution are 10 pages to the end, and this is a 350 page book! With a rushed ending, the book never feels it resolves any issues that had occured during the earlier segments. During the rushed ending, Natalie (the main character) jumps around to say her future, swinging in the next paragraph to describe what was happening within that timeframe of her in college. If I had known how dismal Natalie's character was, and how the book would have ended, I wouldn't have bought it. I normally love Young Adult books, but this one was purchased and slapped me in the face as I read it. I would not recommend it to anyone, and reluctant readers would not pick this book up. Unless you're a diehard fan of UConn and want to know how campus life was during the 1990s, rock on. For the rest of the world, this pathetic excuse for a Connecticutian makes the rest of us want to go other state schools for fear of embarassment from this book.Read full review
