The Elgato PCIE capture card is better than I could've expected. I've used screen capturing software throughout my time as a video editor, and it always seems to have an obnoxious caveat. This is the first time I've used hardware, and the quality of the image is astounding. No loss in quality detected vs. seeing the real thing. Audio that is caught over HDMI will also be recorded. Even though it does capture 4K at 60fps, you can set it to lower resolutions as desired within the software settings. The "Mk.2" is much smaller than its predecessor, and fit all-too-perfectly in my last available PCIE slot. Elgato did release the 4K Pro, which still records in 4K60, but it allows passthrough for 8K60. In other words, you record in 4K, but can see the image on your TV (assuming you're playing a game console) in 8K. Given our society at large still uses 1080p as the consumer standard (we're very close to it being 4K), most people probably wouldn't benefit from this. If you use a desktop computer with available PCIE slots, I can't think of a better way to record external sources.Read full review
