The BMD MultiView 4 absolutely does what it is supposed to -- take four video sources and output them in a 2x2 grid. And the fact that all four of those sources can be different resolutions and frame rates is impressive. But there are a couple of limitations to this product that I find curious... First, the SDI output only has a few different options for resolution and frame rate. Of those, probably only 1080i or 2160p29.97 are useful. But what about 1080p59.94? Or 1080p29.97? Certainly the hardware should be capable of those formats. 2160p59.94 would have been nice, but I can understand why that was omitted. Also of interest is that this product does not pass the metadata present in the SDI video streams on any of the inputs to the output. So if you're using BMD gear and hope to put this between the output of an ATEM switcher and the input of a camera, you'll lose tally and camera control capabilities. Again, it would be very easy for BMD to fix, but they don't seem interested. Likewise, unlike the 16-input version, it also doesn't support on-screen tally boxes. Not via SDI nor Ethernet. Or GPI. That would be very useful. The other thing to note is that there is some processing delay of at least a few frames. So plan accordingly.Read full review
