This is an easy an accurate way to put the finishing touches on your pinewood derby car before final weigh in.. First off, tungsten putty doesn't weigh nearly as much as tungsten of the same volume. I would guess it's between half and a third as much, but I did not measure it. I bought a tungsten canopy which weighed 3 oz and this 1oz putty, the canopy was just a little larger by volume. So I used the weight of the car and the canopy and some lead to get really close to 5 oz and then like the youtube video showed, I ripped off a hunk of putty and placed it in the scale until the total weight was exactly 5 oz. Then rubbed it into the various nooks and crannies available under the car. Mind you, I planned ahead and there were some open nooks and crannies placed near the rear and spaced in a balanced manner so the weight would be most effective. The car was dead on at weigh in, but what I like so much about this stuff is how quick & easy it is to add or subtract weight should the official scale disagree with my own. The prior year that happened and it took over half an hour for my son to get the weight just right and that was with the help of an adult at the tune table; and between weigh in and the races... about an ounce fell off(poor glueing)so my son ended coming in 2nd place(out of 3) in all 3 heats, which was in the bottom half of all racers. This year, with help from the putty, he won first place.Read full review
