  • If you're a gamer but also a bookworm you MUST.

This book contains a plethora of information. In fact it has so much information that it's technically a text book that describes men's curiosity for gaming, and it's the best book out there that reveal all the questions you've ever had. From Pong, to E.T. Video game companies, the industry that made the world LOCO for Mario Bros and Donkey Kong. Everything is in here. My son had an assignment for school about the history of gaming and I actually have about every console so he's no stranger to 80's nostalgia video games that got me through while I traveled with my parents when I was a little girl. From Atari, to Amiga all the way to Nintendo, Sega, PlayStation, XBOX and all the in between consoles and the death of Atari, it's all here. It even talks about the very first Easter egg ever placed on an Atari 2600 video game. It's truly fascinating. My son of course got his grade from his report and he had an A+ thanks to this book. Again, if you love video games, make them, sell them or play them, you MUST read this book. It's fantastic! Now a warning. The audiobook is 22 hours long. I bought the audiobook as well but the narrator sounded lethargic which is why we made the decision to buy the text book instead and it didn't disappoint. The only drawback is, it's a textbook okay? It's HUGE and weights 2.5lbs. Steven Kent the author went through a ton of interviews and I mean it not as a figure of speech, and sat down with everyone working in the industry all the way from other companies like Namco, Sony and even E-A Games. The Bible of Gaming. That's what this should've been called because it's in it's true nature a marvel that we have accomplished so much in the terms of gaming and although this book hasn't been updated for a few years to incorporate the newer consoles and the newcomer makers of the games we play today, it steering on this direction. I hope it soon can be updated to add virtual reality in a bigger context since it's actually been around for the last 25 years but just now it has become available for the public to have. Get it, read it, enjoy it, then play those games sitting on your game-shelf, games like Space Invaders, Pacman, Centipede, and more. You're going to have a deeper appreciation of those old games you no longer touch and will make you want to go on a video games hunt to find games that are thought to be buried because they failed when they launched such as it was the cause of ET The Extraterrestrial.
