I have been contemplating moving to a surface to replace my laptop. I am an engineer and use my laptop for simple CAD drawing, large spreadsheets, etc. I got the surface, surface keyboard, and HDMI adapter. I used this with my large monitor for a week then added a docking station and full size keyboard/mouse. The surface runs all my programs and the size is great. I am working in my office on a full size computer then when I go to a meeting or traveling it is a great size and the battery will lasts for many hours of meetings. I have tried the note application with the pen. I am a still trying to get the hang of using that but works well. Overall a great laptop replacement.

I watch music videos and this uses the battery pretty fast. The unit has heat issues and you would want to use it in a case, not holding it. The screenshots are good and picture quality is good when streaming. The unit is much faster than Surface 3 which was what I was hoping for when I upgraded. The screen size is not much different than the surface 3 though. The killer for me is the heat issue. I have my doubts about longevity.

As long as I've been in the tech industry, laptops have been key to working in the field. I was cautious in going the tablet route due to small keyboards and lack of power. I have to admit that when I purchased the Surface Pro 3, my mind was changed. This is great for entertainment use but in all honesty, the best use-case scenario is for business. You practically get the full-power of a laptop while maintaining a small size for portability. With the added benefit of having a full-size USB port and mini-HDMI output, you can work from the tablet or a large-screen monitor/TV as your needs require. The docking station option is nice if this is the only PC you need. Otherwise, use a desktop when at your desk and take this on the road. Even though there are some cons to buying a tablet, the biggest is still the price. For purchasing a new Surface Pro, the cost is in many cases higher than a full-size laptop with more power and features. However, it portability is what you're looking for with most everything you can get in a laptop, this is a great option especially when purchasing used and in good condition!Read full review

I loved my surface pro, it did everything well including kill the battety... average life was about 5 hours, but with any heavy computing you might make it to 3 hours. Apart from the battery life, it was amazing, Until I dropped it... on concrete. .. let's just say the surface pro line is not for the rugged outdoors types. The screen shattered like so many dreams and Microsoft has no capacity in place to repair them, so I got to eat my investment. If you pick up a SP3 or 4, get a really good case for it or just leave it in one place. It is an amazing machine and if I could afford another one I would grab it in a heart beat.

Bought it as a business computer. Work on the road a lot. Was skeptical as to whether this could replace my 1 year old HP laptop. Was very happy with the laptop, but this 128GB Surface Pro3 has exceeded my expectations. I use Photoshop a lot and it keeps up just as well, maybe even better than my bigger unit and the screen on the surface Pro3 is so crisp and tack sharp that I don't miss the bigger screen even for Photoshop. Use AutoCAD software on it too. The lighted keyboard is great; high contrast so I don't need my reading glasses even late in the day. Would have given a 5 star overall but it only has 1 USB port. I use 2 a lot and have to use a hub, but am picking up a docking station tomorrow for home use and probably can get by much easier. I completely replaced my 15.7" screen laptop with this unit, and I so far don't regret it at all. It took a little getting used to it being so much smaller, but carrying it around is so easy, it is worth it! Wish the stylus had a positive holding method. Dropped it the first day and injured the tip, so don't carry it around much. Am getting the Microsoft pen holder tomorrow. If it is solid enough I will again use the stylus on the road. The I-5 processor does warm up pretty good when I use such memory intensive software, but I believe it is well within tolerance and I heard the I-7 gets too hot sometimes so am happy with the performance of the I-5. Even with 20/20 hindsight I would do it again the same except I would get the docking station and stylus holder when I bought the computer. This computer is faster by quite a lot than my laptop, and it was quite good. One Note is great! Take pics with the tablet and write right on the screen, saves me a lot of time surveying buildings and noting areas of concern. Thanks Microsoft for getting this one right. My only negative is that there is only 1 USB port and I like to use a mouse. Trouble is I also use other usb devices. I'm getting used to using Bluetooth and my network at home. Also there is only a MicroSD slot and all my Nikon equipment is SD. Overall this is a very good compromise though.Read full review
While I like my iPad I wanted and needed something that was more versital. It takes a little bit to get use to the way you do things on the surface but it really is a great solution that sits between a laptop and an iPad. IPads are pretty locked down and straight forward but I don't like being locked into iTunes and I don't want to worry about if a video format is supported or if there's something running flash. When I need to really type something out I prefer having a keyboard option. Surface was a great option. Picked up the pro because I have some functions that need the extra power but I'm considering picking up a regular surface to replace my iPad. At the end of the day the surface just gives me more options.

I don’t know if this screen is comparable with Retina display but in my opinion is excellent. I watched a couple of movies and I am very pleased with the quality. Realistically speaking I just wanted some a bit more portable than my laptop. Intel i5, 8GB RAM 256GB SSD are more than enough for what I need, besides I have a 4TB portable HDD I can attach to the USB port. About the battery life, well I don’t think I ran out of juice on a single session yet, which for me is long battery life. I estimate the battery is giving about 5-6 hours average of operation... I came with keyboard, Surface stylus and Surface mouse, I added a portable BlueRay. I think I have more than what I need for now.

The Surface Pro is a great machine that has gotten better with each generation. I picked-up the 3 when it was about three-years old. The batteries best days were definitely behind it but with a full charge I'm still able to get between two and three hours out of it, depending how I'm using it. It runs Windows Pro 10, so it allows me to use any of the programs I run on a full Windows PC, and it also has an app store that has apps designed specifically for this tablet. The keyboard I received with it is native to the Surface Pro 4, so it has a few functions that the 3rd generation keyboard didn't have, and it works great with the Pro 3. It also came with an earlier version of the Surface Pen that I'm getting used to using. I'm not an artist but I have let an artist use it on this machine and it's very impressive. It really offers an incredible amount of options to be creative, even when you might not have the inherent skills of an artist. Microsoft has really done a great job with this Surface, and the accessories and software to facilitate and foster creativity. This is also a great machine to get work done. It has great hardware specs that don't disappoint. If your in the market for a laptop or hybrid tablet, you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't give the Surface a look.Read full review

I only had this a month before reselling it on eBay. The screen is just a bit small for web browsing, especially if you need to tap on something small with your finger. It's ok if you use an external mouse but that kinda defeats the purpose of having a touch screen, right? But this works well, is fast and responsive and has a nice screen. I sold it and got a Dell Inspiron 7000 2-in-1 with a 15.4" screen. I'm now sold on the whole "touch screen" experience. Just make sure you get something with lots of RAM and an SSD. An i5 or i7 processor is also highly recommended.

I had a Acer Touch that had a good screen and decent speed and a little reluctant to trust those who said the Surface would replace laptops. I have been very pleased with my Surface PRO. The solid state hard drive makes it run circles around my other computers. Running the i7 processor with Windows 10 gives me all the speed I need. Would have been nice to have another USB port, but I use a Bluetooth mouse so getting by. Not giving up my iPad because it is a bit much for holding as a pad and Apple still has the better apps. But I did sell my laptop.
