Well first off i'm not very good at reviews and second i have to say that the game is pretty good, almost no loading time and everything, the extra levels are very nice, so here is my ratings
Graphics 8.5
Sound 8.0
Controls 7.0
Music 9.5
Fun factor 8.5
Final rating 9.0
Very good game, but not quite all that great imo
It is an upgraded and better version of Mortal Kombat 4, although the graphics aren't that great, the game play is still good enough to be considered a good game, I would even say that it is better than Mortal Kombat 1 but again this is just my opinion the game introduces new and returning characters each one of them with a specific weapon overall I think it's worth trying it out.
MK Gold is underrated and a highly enjoyable romp in the MK universe
I am very happy to see the positive reviews for this game here, as the critics bashed it upon initial release. Why? Their complaint was the game had very bad graphics and animation for a Dreamcast title. What they fail to realize is that Mortal Kombat Gold is a suped up port of Mortal Kombat 4, so naturally it has similar graphics to that pre-Dreamcast era game. Not to mention, the Dreamcast version of MK Gold runs at a higher resolution than the arcade! Bad graphics? I dont think so! Sure the Dreamcast can do better, but this is a pumped up port of MK4 with extras people. The animations are great, the fatalities even better and the backgrounds are beautifully rendered in colorful and detailed 3D. If you want a solid MK title on your Dreamcast pick this up, but if you want an example of the Dreamcasts graphic horsepower, look elsewhere.
The character selection in MK Gold is great, and there are hidden playable characters like Goro and Noob Saibot. Via the outstanding cheat menu, you can change the fatalities to a one button command, so people can successfully DO the fatalities (unlike most MK games) lol. IMO this game features some of the best stage and regular fatalities of any MK game. My only complaint is that the bosses, Goro and Shinnok are pretty damn easy and for some reason Goro doesnt seem to have the horsepower he did in earlier games. Also, Shinnok is just like another regular player; nothing elder god about him at all. Other than that, pick up this game and get the red disc revision, not the gold disc with initial release flaws. You cant go wrong with MK Gold people!
Pros - Beautiful backgrounds, character selection, cheats, weapons and stage items to bash your opponent with, animations and fatalities
Cons - Some special moves between characters seem like repeats, boss characters especially weak, characters feel a bit stiffRead full review
