  • It is a step up from the Baofeng UV-5R

It is light weight but has good power output for price . I like the longer but flexible antenna just hope it last. it is easy to program basic setup. I like the voice response for key entry . I'm still working on trying to get CHIRP program to load for this radio it would make programing for a lot of channels a lot easier. The case has a better fit to the hand then the boafeng UV-5r. It is just a little bigger and probably why the chargers are not interchangeable with the UV-5R .

  • Baofeng GT-3TP - a work in progress

The HT is easy to program using Chirp software. I have several. It is important to buy a new device each time because the final transistor (8 watts) is not well heat sinked and can die if the transmit time exceeds two minutes more or less. Many used radios can be found for sale and their finals may be burned out. Of course, when the final goes, the receiver works, the display appears to work, but there is no output. The radio has a couple of other flaws. The transmit switch can activate while in your coat pocket and can burn out the final after a couple of minutes. The PTT switch needs a stiffer spring to prevent this. The on/off knob needs more resistance to being adjusted accidentally by clothing that it comes into contact with while worn ... this can run down the battery. That said, the transmit and receive audio are good and the 8 watt output help make signals more readable in the field. The Baofeng GT-3TP is a nice radio.

  • Not bad for price or getting on air.

This Baofeng radio has plenty of volume. It programs in Chirp software under the UV-5R setting as there is no setting for the GT-3TP in Chirp. It uses the same program cable as the UV-5R model. The sound hole over the mic area is always too small. I recommend carefully opening the face and using a #30 drill bit to open plastic face mic hole. It’s not a Yaesu but it will get you on the air and rag-chewing.

  • Radio

Was looking for mainly a police scanner that was reasonably priced probably works great for a ham operator. Needs to be linked to repeaters Beyond my knowledge.
