This Thing Works!
Running an AMD FX-6100 (6 Core) processor on a Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 motherboard in a semi-tropical climate, I was having BAD, BAD overheating problems running CPU intensive games. System lock-ups were happening after only playing for as little 5 minutes. The top of the Cooler Master Silencio 550 case near the CPU was so hot I could barely touch it. I actually caught the CPU temp reach 92Deg C ... NINETY TWO!!! (Water boils at 100c).
I tried 4 different cooling solutions including a liquid cooling system ... they were all pretty much useless. This system works. It not only works ... IT IS SUPERB! ... with 1 tiny drawback, but later for that.
Anyway, now during a local heatwave (35deg C common daily temp) the CPU temp (fully loaded running the same games) barely rises over 51deg C ... NO MORE SYSTEM LOCK-UPS) I couldn't be happier ... well almost.
That one tiny drawback? This thing is BIG, really BIG. No problems at all in terms of interfering with anything on the motherboard, but it is a problem with the case ... specifically the height. I now have to run that machine with the side cover off. Even if I removed a portion of the sound dampening material, it would still sit a couple of mils too high to put the side cover on. But seriously, considering how quiet those 2 fans are and the cooling efficiency provided ... I can easily live with that.
I am extremely happy I bought this unit and can definitely recommend it. Just be mindful of the height of it.
