The author has done a wonderful job providing history along with technical information in a way that is easy to read. Photos and diagrams are outstanding. Many books of this type are either too complicated or overly simplistic. As I research further into underground structures I keep coming back to this book for ideas, concepts ect.. I also like the fact the author ask questions and or brings up points why certain decisions were made. Read this book, head to Tucson for the tour and you will know what the Titan II is all about!

The "Titan II Handbook" is an exceptionally well-illustrated and always interesting look into the design, construction and operation of a Titan II ICBM and its launch complex. As is well shown in the book these sites were mind-boggling in so many ways, from the enormous amount of re-bar and steel used in the silo and launch control center, to some of the puzzling gaps in the hardening of the facility. More than just a recitation of technical details the book also covers the history of the Titan II's deployment, day-to day operations, what would transpire should the crew be required to launch, as well as afterwards. Large fold-out blueprints of the Titan II and the launch complex are icing on the cake. This book captures and preserves the details of a sobering collection of technologies and makes more real their whole existence and the thinking that went into the balance of power in the Cold War era.Read full review

As a former combat crew commander at site 571-7 which is now a museum as part of the usaf museum system, this book tells the story of the missile system. My crew and I pulled more than 400 alerts at this site. It was my home site and I was the assistant sector commander for this site, site 571-5,& 571-6. This book relates truthfully the story of this site and the titan2 missile system. The author explains in perfect detail this potant cold war weapon. Prior to assuming combat crew status I spent more than two years as the wing engineer so I know this book is filled with all the ‘right stuff’ about the system. If you are interested in military history or just have a casual interest, this is the book for you.

Briskly written to the point that you feel you are back in the 60’s with the ominous feeling that this maybe it. Amazing technology that sprang up virtually over night building a fortress that could withstand a nuclear attack. Well researched, telling images and detailed fold out drawings that brings this era to life. Well worth the price of admission. Author did an awesome job!

I served in a Titan II wing from 1970 to 1979. I've been telling stories about the sites ever since. Now I have a reference to point to! An excellent compendium!
