The 1925-S is somewhat scarce in lower circulated grades, but higher grade circulated examples are much tougher to find. This issue is rare in mint state and extremely rare in Gem condition. In fact, it is the third rarest Buffalo in Gem condition (non-variety), barely trailing the 1920-S and 1926-S. All three of those issues are super hard to find in Gem MS65 condition and all but impossible to find in grades above MS65. Strike can be a major problem with the 1925-S as many mint state examples have very weakly struck Buffalo horn and tail and Indian hair braid detail. Luster is of the subdued frosty type. This is one of the key dates in the Buffalo nickel series.
This coin was well struck at the mint and has nice definition on both sides. This coin usually is not found with so much detail as this coin. This coin is notoriously known as being poorly struck with major features missing on the both sides. This is a well above average specimen for this date.

I was lucky to find the coin. I'm putting together a fairly high grade buffalo nickel set and this one fit in very nicely.

If you're like me, you hate seeing too many open slots in your collecting book. Many Bison Nickels in really good shape (full horn/date) are expensive, so it takes a while to put a dent in your book. Restored coins like these fill those spots quickly & cheaply. After the book is filled you can go back and replace, one at a time with natural beauties.

The coin is quite expensive in higher grades, but to find a circulated one in vf-ef condition without problems is always a treat. Coin collectors and numismatists can understand this and this item fits well into my date run of S mint buffalo nickels. Grading by the premier grading service only goes to show you that the item is of a superior quality for it's grade.
Nice quality coin. Great price
