I bought a Canon G10 camera for carrying with me on the job and to do some night photography. The Canon G series cameras enjoy a solid reputation and the G10 is no exception. The camera is essentially a 15 MP workhorse. You can opt to just use it as a fancy point and shoot camera by using the Auto mode setting, or you can go full manual mode. There are multiple options to use many other settings or to set up custom settings to suit your need. The camera has a 5X optical zoom and up to 20X digital zoom capability. You can also use either a wired or wireless remote shutter release with the G10 (something that its predecessor, the G9, lacked). While the G10 is several years old, in terms of versatility and features coupled with reasonable price, it is one darn good buy. Lens adapters and Teleconverter accessories are available (and can be used with G10, G11, G12 cameras). The learning curve for using the camera is not too steep. You can also find User Manuals on line, or look for a copy of David Busch's Field Guide for the G10 and G11 for a easy to understand explanation of all the features and when to use them. If you are wanting to set up a camera for digiscoping, the G10 will work nicely, but plan on spending $45-$60 for adapters.
All in all, I am quite happy with the camera and feel that I made a really good purchase.
