  • Fixes fluctuating idle for Mazda RX 8

I've owned my RX 8 for over 16 years at this point. Along with the myriad of recalls and parts that fail with time is this part. I noticed that my car, regardless of a long or short trip would cause my cars engine to Rev from 800rpm to 2000rpm when in neutral. After looking up these symptoms I was able to verify the need for this part to be replaced - when the car would fluctuate in rpms, I would press the clutch down to the floor, and the ram would correct and stay at 850. This told me that the part reviewed here had failed or more specifically sticks, and thus the pcm aka computer did not know if the transmission is in neutral. Replacing this part isn't complex, but does require using an open end rachet set, commonly referred to a go-through or pass-through set. This way you don't damage the wires at the end of the sensor. The part is located on the top of the transmission, just behind the stick shift. I recommend a lift to raise your car, or lots of car stands and having up one side of the car high enough for you to reach said part.
