It's a Weller! They have always been known for quality and this iron is no exception. It heats up FAST and holds on to that heat when soldering. It has a comfortable grip that doesn't get hot while working. The tips are super easy to change and there are many tips for different jobs. If you're looking for power to get big jobs done, buy a Weller. Smaller irons just don't have the thermal capacity to solder big joints and connectors. The power wire is thick and stiff. Although it is needed for the amount of power, it can be bothersome sometimes working with the iron. Especially when you set the iron on the stand. You find yourself bending and moving the wire to get the iron into certain positions. But with age, the wire losses its coil memory from being in the package.

Works very well! Using it for soldering aluminum (yes you heard me right) tabs on a li-ion battery cell to another cell. I'm using a 4mm bar of copper to wrap each aluminum tab. I need the soldering pencil to make the initial connection between the aluminum tab and the copper bar. I have two Weller soldering stations (for electronics) and two Weller soldering guns. This is the only thing that will overcome the thermal mass.

It's a Weller iron, and if you've ever used them you know they're good quality. This is a temperature controlled iron, temperature controlled through Weller's trick of using a tip with a temperature sensitive magnetic device. The magnetic attraction changes with the temperature. DON'T use non-Weller tips, Without the magnetic switch, the iron won't work right. But with the right tip, the iron works great. The iron ships with a 700 deg F WIDE tip. If you're doing electrical soldering (on boards with a lot of copper), you might want a hotter and maybe smaller tip. They are available.

This Weller has become irreplaceable. Warms up quickly, melts solder for stained glass projects without any problems. It did take a short time to get used to the size and weight of product, but overall it has done a great job for my needs.

This soldering iron has been a wonderful addition to my electronics repair tools . It pleases me to have something large and hot enough for large transistor removal. I would recommend this product for any one doing repair to their amplifiers.
