I can't begin to tell you how awesome this Sony A/V receiver is. I had an expensive, high-end receiver from Onkyo, but there were always problems (and LOTS of updates that didn't always fix things). Eventually, it died... and I decided I wanted one the same brand as my TV (good thing it wasn't Vizio😆). Sony quit making their higher end A/V receivers in 2015(?!), and since I couldn't guarantee that last model would fully support 4K UHD... I opted for this one. Although it doesn't have an AM tuner (WHY???), and no wi-fi... it having "Bluetooth" is PHENOMENAL!!! I've already listened to music from my phone through the sound system, and THAT is such a great feature! The integration with the TV, as well as the rest of my devices (Sony Blu-Ray player, Xbox One X - that's my 4K disc player... and it plays games, too!). Utilizing the TV's HDMI port with ARC, ANYTHING you watch gets pumped through the STR-DH790, when it is on (the TV speakers are automatically disabled, otherwise you would get an echo effect). There IS one thing I hate (it's minor, though): The FM antenna port has a proprietary connecter. I suppose it was the cheapest connection method (other than a metal contact and a piece of tape to stick the wire to it). I have a nice dipole antenna mounted on the back of my entertainment center, which has served me well the last 2 decades for getting FM stations on MANY different brands of A/V receivers - including an earlier Sony model... and now I can't use that antenna! The first day after the warranty ends, I'm removing that connecter and replacing it with something standard (I'm an electronics engineer, but "anyone" who's capable of opening the unit and can handle a soldering iron... could replace that stupid connecter with a single screw terminal). Other than that last gripe... I really love this Sony STR-DH790. 🥰Read full review

Haven't completely assembled all wiring just yet, I’ve ordered an atmos speaker system to pair with this receiver. My most recent and last receiver was a Sony just like this one except for the high resolution technology. And since both are 7.2 channel applications, shouldn’t be any difference hooking up the wires. I’ll post an update when I have speakers connected.

The only reason I purchased is is because of the shallow depth so it fits in our AV cabinet.

It was replacing an older mode Sony that had the center channel randomly dropping out, not quite as powerful as that model but definitely more balanced so it’s great!
