A shallow attempt at depth.
Possibly the Killers took stock in their earlier work and realized that, even though they were immensely popular and sold many units, it just wasn't going to be a lasting thing. So here they try to write an epic of sorts, shamelessly patterned after the most lasting stuff they could think of; Springsteen and Seger, Unfortunately they can't write or sing well enough to pull it off in any way.
