I don't know if they make artsy independent movies like this anymore, definitely a product of the 80s/90s indie film boom. Love seeing all the actors in this, the scenery and soundtrack are beautiful. Nice to see a period piece that is NOT a variation on the Romeo & Juliet / Le Miz theme. Disappointing there is not a better digital release of this movie: I assume this was filmed widescreen but the DVD presents the film in old TV 4:3 fullscreen and it's quite a bit grainy, also no special features.

Perfect period film based on true historic information and beautiful character development.
This is on my Short List of the BEST movies of all time. The movie is based on a true story from history and it comes alive beautifully and believably. I was hooked from the first moment! I had exhausted all avenues trying to find a DVD version of the film and had considered having my old VHF tape transferred to DVD if my most recent efforts failed once again. What luck to come across a vendor that was offering copies in DVD that were manufactured on Demand and in full frame! I could not wait for it to arrive and watch it again for about the 10th time! The transfer to DVD appears to be flawless and colors true to life. I could not be more pleased with this purchase!! I have no negative comments at all.
