Fools Puzzle is the first in a series of 13 books now by Earlene Fowler, local Southern California author. Her Benni Harper series is very engaging, making you feel like you know the characters. The series is set in a fictional town, San Celina (patterned after San Luis Obispo), and Benni is the curator of a folk art museum. The books are all named after quilt patterns and there is arts/crafts information too from the museum. Crafters, mystery lovers, southerners, ranchers, and in readers in general will love this series. The other books are Irish Chain, Kansas Troubles, Dove in the Window, Goose in the Pond, Mariners Compass, Seven Sisters, Arkansas Traveler, Steps to the Alter, Sunshine and Shadow, Broken Dishes, Delectiable Mountain, and her latest, Tumbling Blocks. Earlene Fowler also has a mainstream novel, The Saddlemaker's Wife, set near Bishop, that is not part of the Benni Harper series. This was a great read too and we hope she'll write a sequel to this one. Her website is www.earlenefowler.com and I encourage you to visit the website and go to a book signing in your area - she's so nice and down to earth, and it's great to hear a quilt talk and then hear about her newest book.Read full review
I enjoyed reading this book. It sets the stage for a great series of continued stories. It provided easy reading and clean entertainment.
Great start to a great series of books. Can't tell everything about a whole new little world and Ms Fowler leaves enough so that you look forward to reading the next book.
I had never read any Fowler books A friend recommended them and since I quilt, I thought they would be appropriate. They are wonderful. I love reading them and relating to the quilting portions.
I couldn't put this book down. Earlene Fowler's sense of humor is wonderful. And it is a very romantic book in a clean wholesome way. You will love it.
