The tamron 70-180 for Sony E is the right choice. I opted for it over the Sony 70-200 f2.8 and the f4 and I couldn’t be happier. Sure you get more functions with the Sony 2.8 but for $1,500+ more it couldn’t be justified. The tamron is just as sharp and it feels good on the body. It’s not too big but it feels pro. It doesn’t have internal zoom but the zoom is smooth. Overall the tamron is just as sharp as the big boys but is lighter, has a closer minimum focusing distance(almost macro at 70mm in manual) and is cheaper. If you’re at a crossroad, don’t hesitate and just get the tamron. Also, I got the lens collar mount for mine which makes it really look pro when you show up to locations…if you’re in to that.

One of my best purchases since i switched to Sony system. I switched from Canon to Nikon and now to Sony and i've owned their 70-200 lenses for many years. I still own the Nikon one. This lens compared to the other 2 lenses is much lighter and performs just as well. Although the focal length stops at 180 mm you don't really feel much difference.

I want to touch, briefly, on the subject of durability. I don't care what materials go into this lens This lens is well made,- very well made The sharpness, resolution is excellent. I particularly like the way Tamron lenses work when it comes to closeups. The lens' other functions,- the speed of the auto focusing is every bit as good as the SONY equivalent. Yes, this lens is "good value".

I bought this primarily to shoot outdoors football (soccer) with very little light. At f2.8 across the entire focal length on my A7R3 this is a sharp, very fast to focus and absolutely worth it.

Body is SUPER light compared to the Sony GM 70-200. Had to return the Sony because it was SO heavy and the zoom focus wasn't that sharp! Crazy. The Tamron is sharp, discreet and perfect for me....bc I don't like to be noticed

Works just as well as my Sony native lens, super clear, sharp images, and fast, accurate auto focusing! A+

Already a great deal at MSRP, if you can find this at a discount it's a no-brainer. On par with the Sony 70-200 f/2.8 in terms of image quality and even autofocus (which is stupidly fast, mind you), my aging A7 finally became a bottleneck. Was debating going with the Sony 70-200 f/4 over this, but chose the Tamron in the end and don't regret it one bit. Lightweight, sharp, fast (autofocus and aperture) and versatile, this is joining the rest of my daily kit without a doubt.

Have to use a large aperture to get zoom photos sharp, which means it just isn't very good in low light.

Love it, battled between this and the Sony for awhile. I'm happy with the Tamron quality, sharpness, weight
