A great guitar for the price
Great value for money at the price I paid, which included a 10% eBay-funded discount. The retail price has subsequently risen but, in my view, the guitar is still great value at the new price. Finish and acoustic sound are excellent, with a beautiful sunburst solid spruce top and an impressively balanced bass and treble response. The Sigma's fingerboard and bridge are made of Micarta, a synthetic resinous material, which looks, sounds and feels fine to me—I believe Martin uses it on some of its guitars. The guitar's amplified sound is not as good as my Cole Clark FL2's, but the Sigma is about a third of the Cole Clark's current price, so that's an unfair comparison.
The only real criticism I have of the Sigma is that it needs a set-up to lower the action, which is too high for my taste.
Overall, the Sigma is a very good guitar and great value for money. I have never played a Gibson J45 for comparison, but the latter is an all-solid guitar and probably at least 4 or 5 times the price of my Sigma, so I would expect it to be a superior instrument, even allowing for the price premium the Gibson brand attracts.
I really like my Sigma SG45 and I would recommend it highly.
