I own a house that's about 100 years old. The side entrance into the kitchen did not have an adjacent light switch which meant that one would have to walk across a dark kitchen to turn on the light. This has always bothered me, but I finally came up with a solution as shown in the photos. I buried Wiremold underneath the door casing and surface mounted a switch box as the wall behind the box was filled with solid wood framing for the door and window. I now have a switch at each of the three entries to the kitchen. I had to cut up the elbows to fit in the space available, but that was fine with me. I'm very happy with how the project turned out, and these elbows were a key part. The first photo shows the door casing removed with the switch box and two elbows shown installed. The second photo shows the door casing, which was grooved to accept the Wiremold, re-installed. The third photo, taken from the position of the switch shown in the other two photos, shows another Wiremold installation for the same circuit at the kitchen-to-front room door which I mounted on a built-in bookcase in the front room. By replacing the existing switch with a 3-way switch, I can now control the kitchen overhead light from all three entries. I also added a 3-way circuit in the front room so I can now walk through both kitchen and front room from any door to any other door and turn the lights on and off as I go.
