This book is so beautifully written, it is almost poetic in it prose. I hated it to end so rushed out to find and read Andy Catlett, also by Wendell Berry. It too was excellent. I would highly recommend it. You wouldn't think the little Kentucky town of Port William and its inhabitants in the time pre and post WWII could be so riveting , but it surely is.

Great book. The pace of the story is slow, but eventually draws you in. The life wisdom makes you think.

Sweet life story kept me engaged. For those who like to harken to slower times that were sometimes sadder yet contained joy in a sense of place and its people.

I had read the book and have a couple of friends that I thought might like it so I sent a copy to each. I've yet to hear their reviews.

You can't go wrong with any of Wendell Berry's books. He is an astoundingly good writer, who can pull you in to the time period of his writing, and make you feel as if you're there. Jayber Crow is an especially good book, because the character is so real, not just for his time and position in society (he's the barber in Port William, Kentucky), but for the feelings and thoughts put down in Berry's beautiful prose. This book should be read by everyone.
