Interesting for its historical setting and its study of human characteristic
This is a good read, and I was prompted to purchase the book after seeing a PBS presentation of the story. The view into the society of Amsterdam in the 1600s is well portrayed in this novel, and the characters are both interesting and enigmatic. The author builds suspense well and makes this a book that is hard to put down. The language and style of the author make this a very readable text, yet they also challenge the reader.
