  • A Good Representation of the Viscount, Plus Nostalgia for Me

I love this Vickers Viscount because my father took me on one when I was a little kid back around 1960. It was even the same airlines: Capital. I even remember the number on the nose: 316. Previously I had ridden on DC-6s, but the Viscount was so nice! The interior was light and pleasant, and the ride was quiet and smooth. And the windows were HUGE! It also had something I'd never seen before: fold-down tray tables! Before when you had in-flight meals, they put a pillow on your lap and set a cafeteria tray on top of it. I asked one of the stewardesses (that's what they were called back then) to bring me some paper, which she did, and I spent much of the flight drawing pictures on my cool table. I also remember gazing in awe at the shiny Rolls-Royce double-R plates on the sides of the engines. Enough nostalgia. This 1/96 scale kit is a very good representation of the look of the Viscount, much better than that of the much more expensive 1/72 scale kit. Separate passenger doors are provided so you can pose them open if you like (both doors hinged outward toward the front), but there is no cabin interior so you'll have to provide that yourself. A boarding stairway is included, as are standing figures of a pilot, a stew, and two passengers. You will also have to put some weight in the nose so the finished model will stand on all three landing gears. Decals and painting instructions are provided for two Viscounts, one Capital Airlines and one for some other airline.
