It works well through both MIDI and USB/MIDI, and the pad sounds are very nice. It has good emulation of older SC-55 and MT-32 for retrogamers, if an appropriate instrument map is loaded (see MIDI SysEx online or in the manul for more). If supported by your operating system (Linux confirmed as working, sadly Windows drivers have not been updated in a while) then you can record audio through USB, making it a very versatile device in a home music studio.
