A few years ago we upgraded the original nickel plated Shubb capo, giving it the roller design, and a more streamlined look and feel. So for those who still want the “classic” — the original Shubb capo as it has been for over 40 years — we are continuing to make the ORIGINAL Shubb capo available in plain brass.
Partial capos are a bit of an acquired taste, and most guitarists probably won't see the need. However, if you're seeking some different "open" sounds for, say, your acoustic-electric (I play Ovation), then the Shubb C7B is worth a look. (There are other options e.g. Kyser, G7th, Liberty Flip, or even a spider capo), but I like the C7B because it doesn't get in the way when playing. I also like the fact that you can easily trim a few millimetres off the width of the rubber foot if it's too wide for your guitar (e.g. as it tends to be on my Strat.) One resource I'd recommend for anyone wanting to get into partial is the book "Secrets of the 3-String Partial Capo" by Harvey Reid. ( bought mine as a digital download on Apple iBooks, but you can also get it in hard-copy from the USA, although shipping to my place in Australia was going to be exorbitant.) This book is a real mine of information on 3-string partial capo'ing, and contains hundreds of chord formations for you to try ..... I don't pretend to be an expert on 3-string capo, but the Shubb is certainly teaching me stuff and adding to my options in playing.
