This is a great batman story. While some batman fans subscribe to the idea that the Joker was the gotham gangster Jack Napier, this book provides a alternative origin that puts a human face on this diabolical mad man. In this comic Batman confronts the joker in an effort to find a way to stop the means of each of their own ends while revealing the Jokers past. This is a must have for any batman fan that is interested in the mythology behind his arch enemy. While the story was interesting it definatly felt like is could have been developed a little more. I finally decided to buy this book after reading several reviews that advised that this was a diffinative story about the jokers life before crime.
I came across this title in an article of 25 greatest batman graphic novels, it was in the top 5 so I thought I would check it out. Already have Darknight Returns and Year One by Frank Miller and Arkham Asylum by Grant Morrison. This one isn't nearly as long as the others but makes up for it with great story and art work. If you're a fan of either Batman or Joker you should definately give it a look.
Perfect exactly what I was looking for

I just did not get the end joke, but maybe that's the point. Or maybe I'm dense. But I do see how this was used in The Dark Knight (movie). The story seemed kind of random as well ... meh.
