"Permanently" is a nice continuation of the success he had with "Wish You Were Here." He sticks with the same formula on that breakthrough album on this one and it works just as well here. Filled with a nice selection of ballads and a couple up-tempos and mid-tempos, this release is sure to please. Here's a song by song: This Can't Be Love - Up-tempo and cooking! This is a great selection to start off this release with. Wills floats through the song effortlessly with some great vocals that enhance the arrangement. 5/5 Rich Man - Slowing things down on this track, he sings about the fact that while he doesn't have all the luxuries in life, he's rich with the things he does have. Cliche a little bit, but still a good track. 3/5 The Perfect Conversation - A very slow and touching ballad about wanting to say the right things. His delivery of this song is so emotional and you can really connect with it. It's a song that all of us can relate to at some point in time. 5/5 Still Waiting - Along the lines of "Don't Laugh At Me," this song tugs at the heartstrings just as much. Being a child of divorce, I can listen to the first verse and chorus of this song and feel every word that's expressed. Overall, this song should have been a single because it would have hit #1. Give this one a heartfelt listen. 5/5 Because I Love You - After a few slow tracks, a mid-tempo is delivered and picks things up a little bit. This is a simple, but cute, song. A nice profession here. 4/5 Right Here - A touching ballad that you can dedicate to someone you love. Wills vocals are solid and convey the emotion required for this song. 5/5 Time Machine - This song is a little cliche about changing things in the past that have happened in the world and then relating it to one's own life. I guess this is the obligatory track in one's career about wanting to change what's happened before. 3/5 Permanently - I like the way this title track starts off. For me, the arrangement sounds a little different than what Mark Wills usually has. Nothing standout about this song, but just a good quality song. I can see this one on stage! 4/5 Almost Doesn't Count - The Country rendition of this Pop/R&B hit is far superior, in my opinion. The simple acoustic arrangement to start off this track enhances and puts emphasis on Mark's vocals. Speaking of his vocals, he delivers this song as close to being on the money as possible. 5/5 Forget About Love - Builds up to the chorus, but for me, this song doesn't cut it with the quality of the other songs. A little bit too much filler on this track. 3/5 In My Arms - A beautiful song you can tell he's singing to his daugher. Such emotion! 5/5 Everything There Is To Know ABout You - Something about this track just hits with me. It's fun, it's simple, and it's got a great message in it. I really enjoy listening to Wills deliver this track, as well as what he's backed up by. 5/5 Back At One - A track that was cut at the end to make this release is the most incredible on here. While there are some great tracks, this cut is the best. Brian McKnight who? Mark Wills owns this song with his performance. He gives a much better performance based on the fact that he sings with such passion. This is Mark Wills at his very best! 5/5 All in all, this is a very solid release. There are a couple songs that could have been omitted, but every CD has that. Pick this one up and ENJOY!Read full review
Good ol' Georgia boy done good. Great mix of pure Country arrangements mixed with the occasional ballad for a great mix for everyone. This reviewer's picks on this CD are the Brian Mcknight penned "Back at One" that not only hit #1 for Wills but also hit #1 for Mcknight on the Pop and R&B charts as well. This reviewer also suggests "Almost Doesn't Count" which enjoyed some success on the charts, as well. If you are looking for the "sleeper" track (that for some unknown reason did not get released to mainstream radio) check out "Right Here". "Brandy" covered this track in 2006 and had success. However, it was a totally different arrangement. Check this CD out, you will not be disappointed.
Nice early album from this songster. Good tunes, vocals clear and interesting. Nice ballads. A nice album for country enthusiasts.
