I am a loyal user of Makita products. Lately I have purchased a few Milwaukee products because they have some items that I can't easily get from Makita. Last year I temporarily lost my Makita impact driver and couldn't work without it. There was a good deal at the time for an 18 volt Milwaukee screw gun including battery, charger and case so I thought I'd give it a try. I didn't like it. It had way too much power for what I need. I like it a lot for mechanical work on cars etc. I install cabinetry and I don't need so much power. Then I found my lost Makita and life was good again. A year later my trusted Makita is showing signs of many years of hard use and needs to be replaced. One of my employees has a 12 volt Milwaukee that I was really impressed with. I have the battery system already so I purchased this used bare tool to give it a try. WOW! This is a very very good impact driver and much quieter than the typical impact driver. People can actually talk and hear when I'm working in close proximity. I am so impressed. It has very good control at slower speeds. It has four settings for power and speed which I keep it mostly in the #2 position. Installing small screws in hinges and drawers slides is so nice and controllable. I love it. Its small and gets into tighter areas than my Makita. I wonder why someone would sell it after using it. Their loss my gain. This is the "Surge" model which is hydraulic. This is what makes it so quiet and and controllable at lower speeds. And when you need the extra power for driving screws fast and deep it shines there as well. The only downside is that you I can't "feel" the screws tighten up as well. It just keeps going with not much in the way of sound pitch changing as the screw tightens up. I've over tightened a few times which strips out the wood. I've had to get used to this and learn how it reacts as it gets tight. Minor issue, and the only thing I can find fault with. Batteries last a long time with this tool. It costs a fair amount more than its very similar "non" surge model, but for the professional it is totally worth it. Read full review

The M12 Fuel hydraulic impact is a sweet little package. The same size as the non-hydraulic so it fits in small tool bags and can be available easily but it is quieter than the standard. The M12 system has wonderful battery capacity and power. Don't be afraid of going back to 12 Volts. This tool is easily as strong as my old Makita 14.4 volt impact but half the size and weight.

I’ve had both DeWalt and Bosch versions and they are probably my second most used tool behind cordless drills. The Milwaukee M12 hydraulic is hands down the best of those. It’s quieter, and the torque adjustment allows you to have much more finesse when doing delicate work. The M12 version is lighter and more compact while still offering lots of power to compete against my DeWalt 20v. I ran 20-30 screws and only used 1/2 of a 2.0 amp hr battery. I can only assume the 6.0’s will really kick butt. Although I like having the small battery in it while working in awkward positions up on scaffolding…

The Surge is a lot of impact in a little package! Quiet and efficient, while being a tough little worker. This one knocks it out of the park as far as doing the jobs it is intended for, even if they are quite pricey.

I bought this for automotive work and it's been great so far. It's a compact driver and not too loud for working under the hood of a car.

Powerful. Be careful if you are used to an impact, this thing will break screws until you figure it out. Awesome for sound though.
