I wanted a pair of good sounding closed headphones (live in a noisy area) that were comfortable. These are some of the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn. They're massively over ear, so there's no real pressure, and the pads are made from suede (I believe), so they keep sound out, but don't make your ears sweat like leather. Even though they're not the lightest headphones out there, you can almost forget you're wearing them. The removable cable is also great, but the locking mechanism doesn't make any sense. I want a removable cable so if the cable gets yanked, it simply pops out instead of throwing the whole headphone with it. Thankfully it's easy to remove. I've tried several other headphones, and these are what I ended up sticking with.

I bought these at $51 pre-owned because I own the Sennheiser 6xx and was curious if the 598cs would give me that kind of sound on the go. The bass is good and though these are known for having distortion in the upper range, it gave the music a kind of interesting grittiness that I could live with, and the soundstage was good. However, these are definitely much inferior to the 6xx in terms of sound quality. If you're looking for sound quality, definitely go with the 6xx for only $70 more (retail). And though they would be fine for traversing through a city on foot, and the subway, or a noisy bus, they leak way too much sound to politely use on a plane or quieter form of transit.

The quality is what you would expect from sennheiser, great as always. I reccomend this if you are going to use it on the go, it has decent passive isolation to keep outside noises at bay, and keep your music to yourself, but I think compared to its open siblings you give up a little sound quality for the isolation, they still sound great though far better than most headphones. The cord also has controls on it which really appreciate.

Like I said these are the best headphones I've owned. Comes with the normal 3.5 mm plug and the huge one for amps. Haven't used with an amp yet. Have to turn the volume up a bit more than usual but has amazing clarity and not drowned out by the bass. The bass feels very natural but it's also not week. Exactly what I expect from Sennheiser. Never gonna buy a different brand

I bought my first Sennheiser phones over 30 years ago. Back into music now and these phones are really quite amazing. They are very comfortable, have great audio response tight bass, price wise they sound like headphones costing much more. I am impressed. I might by another pair.
