Spend the extra $ on a stainless version. And keep your fingers crossed.
I've read pro's and con's on these Savage magazines. Not feeding, jamming, tilted bullets, etc. The Model 93 came with a blued mag which I considered of lesser quality, so I ordered a stainless version. Both work fine. Altho initially, the entire action on the brand new rifle was a bit disappointing. These days, who can afford to spit out a few hundred rounds to "break in" their guns of ANY caliber? So I took as much as I could apart and polished the components (bolt, etc) which I recommend. And before you blame the magazine, cycle it through as many times as possible - lubing everything, loading, working the action (if possible without firing). In my case, a bolt action - I just kept loading and ejecting ammunition. After a few mags worth, things started loosening up. I really don't feel confident of the 10 round mags yet to pay the extra money to find out it's of crummy manufacture - another reason I went with the 5 round version. The Savage original magazine in a strong and robust piece of equipment. I'm sure that I will not need to replace it due to manufacturing procedures or due to wear. I have used this magazine for more than 450 rounds and have seen no deterioration or deformation of the equipment. The magazine is easy to disassemble, clean and reassemble. It's shiny and easy to see when you drop it in the grass. Each one might require a little modification as every gun is a bit different.
