Regular batteries a plus
Having compromised vision, bright light is important for me to be able to read and to see at night. As a result I have a huge collection of headlamps, some using lithium/ion rechargeable batteries of varying sizes, some using regular alkaline batteries. Though the lithium headlamps are way brighter, their need for a power source for recharging can sometimes make them inconvenient to use. Though less bright, this Black Diamond headlamp uses 4 AA batteries which can be easily replaced in a couple minutes and which will last for 6-8 hours of continuous use. The functions are easy to select, the unit fits comfortably and adjustably on the head, is usable in torrential rain and feels in the hand to be of solid high quality. The lower level of light is still quite bright. Though near the top of its class price wise, it is also near the top in utility and quality. Only recommended if you need waterproof.
You can purchase a 450 lumen head lamp at home depot for $45.00 half the price of this. It is easy to (it should be, there is only one button) Its comfortable with the strap that goes over your head, but the clip broke in back and had to zip tie together on mine the first use.
