This is a five-star component *only in context*, of course. The Asus P5GC-MX host mainboard had an old P4 520 CPU installed, with its x86 architecture capable of only 32-bit OS support. Exchanging that CPU with the E8500 enabled 64-bit OS installs, while as a bonus adding an *enormous* performance upgrade. The host system is only used as a gateway/router/firewall with a few other functions (IRC server, very-low-use webserver, internal-LAN-only NAS) and is perfect for the demand. It still beats the crap out of any end-user-grade 'router' such as those provided by ISPs. The E8500 CPU upgrade made the difference between extended useful life for an older system, and landfill for same.
