I live in a low level flood prone area with a basement, sump pump gets a lot of use. I bought this as extra insurance to replace the 15 year old same exact model that was still running strong. I went with the tether float switch because this type of switch gives more dependable operation in a sump pit that tends to get filled with sand. Regular common type float switch that's attached to body of the pump tend to stick under these conditions. After reading many reviews along with my own positive experience, the Zoeller BN53 is the most dependable 1/3 HP pump you can buy, especially at the $200 price point. Highly recommend!

The independent tether plus the zoeller name and reputation sold me on this pump for use in my septic system lift station. Generally the flotation switch is what wears out on my lift station pumps. Tethered switches don't wear out generally and if they do they are replaceable. It's been working fine since I installed one week ago.
