This is a really excellent book - the author makes you feel like you were there with him from Turkey to the final stop at Mount Nebo where Moses saw the Promised Land and was taken to rest with his fathers. The author led us through a step-by-step walk through the books of Moses and the saga of the making of a nation of God's Chosen People. The book raised a lot of questions about the contraindications of the Bible and how archaeological evidence does not support several Biblical history. Bruce goes on journey of his own to meet God. Along the way her meets many fascinating people from Bedouins to people who have chosen to live the desert or emigrate to the Holy Land. Bruce meet people of different faiths originating from Abraham. This book lead me to explore more deeply the first part of our Bible and look deeply into long held beliefs. I would recommend this book to Christian, Jews, Muslims and anyone else who is seeking a deeper knowledge of the Old Testament.Read full review
Whether you are Jewish or Christian, this is absolutely "must" reading. Bruce Feiler is one of the most gifted writers I have read, and I have read quite a few authors. Not only does he write to give you a feeling of being there, he writes where you can understand completely what he telling you. From this book you can trace back in Biblical history to the root of Judaism, Islam and Christianity. It is excellent and I highly recommend it. Gaylon Patterson
