Before you replace your compressor.......
I discovered this part seized on my sons car. after changing the compressor, retro fitting R134 fill ports and charging, the ac only made cool air not cold. A friend told me to check this valve which sits just outside the firewall connected to the heater core. If this valve becomes corroded from years of weak antifreeze and other abuses and will not close the flow of hot water to the core. If not stopped by the ac controller you get only cool air. To offer further advice if you change this valve, also have the replacement hose that connects to firewall heater core inlet as you are going to wind up cutting the old one off. After 200000 miles the hose becomes heat soaked to the brass core inlet pipe and will need to be cut off. I believe Hose is gates #18801
