This set number 87-484 is a discontinued set from Microscale. The set is specifically for the units that Burlington Northern had in the "tiger stripe" paint scheme. Tiger stripes were worn by the new GP50's from Electro-Motive, including the five units built with extended cabs. But note that they were not applied to the 1980-81 delivered GP50's which were ordered by the Frisco. The three demonstrator SD60's with standard EMD spartan cab also had this scheme. I know of no other units on BN which were repainted into the tiger stripe scheme. The whole idea behind the tiger stripe scheme which consisted of an orange painted nose and cab front with black stripes on the nose and black around the headlight and number boards. The reason for the scheme was increased visibility. Evidently the scheme didn't satisfy BN officials for later repaints and new power received what is known as "white face". White face had the cab front painted white and a large "BN" on the nose, complete with standard "BN and Burlington Northern" on the cab sides and a white stripe on the sill and separating the black and cascade green. Tiger stripes had a large "BN" herald on the long hood side and "Burlington Northern" in large lettering following the logo. The number was applied to the cab sides.
