SynopsisAugust Shroeder, a burned-out teacher, has been sober since his 19-year-old son died. Every year he's spent the summer on the road, but making it to Yellowstone this year means everything. The plan had been to travel there with his son, but now August is making the trip with Philip's ashes instead. An unexpected twist of fate lands August with two extra passengers for his journey, two half-orphans with nowhere else to go. What none of them could have known was how transformative both the trip--and the bonds that develop between them--would prove, driving each to create a new destiny together., New York Times bestselling author Catherine Ryan Hyde tells the emotional story of an alcoholic reeling from the loss of his son on the journey to finally facing his pain--and forging a path to redemption. The copy is very nice...the transaction went very well...Am having a little trouble with the reading....(apparently, the author has something against full sentences)...I will persevere,, however

  • Wonderful for Book Club

This was a book club favorite. We have read a few of Catharine Ryan Hydes books and enjoyed her characters and plots, but this book is the one our members liked best. As retired RVers our group related to the main character and his yearly summer vacation in his little motorhome. The addition of two extra young passengers during this vacation highlighted relationships, growth, and changes during the journey. This was part of the great plot. We also enjoyed the different places they visited and had some great discussions about our own trips. Problems the kids had to deal with were being saddled with a stranger for the whole summer, an alcoholic dad who lies to them and is in prison for drunk driving. Recommend this book to all.

  • Encouraging to individuals dealing with addiction.

Fictional but very realistic. I'm not an alcoholic but I can very much relate to the characters in the story.

  • fantastic book

Wonderful story of a stranger taking 2 boys, with the fathers' permission, on a summer camping trip thru several National Parks, and how their relationship evolves.
