About this product

Product Information

Fujifilm XQ1 X-Trans CMOS II Digital Camera A fast ultra pocketable premium compact camera that incorporates refined intelligence and pushes the limits. The Fujifilm XQ1 Digital Camera is a unique point-and-shoot that reaps much of X-series imaging prowess and combines it with a highly compact form factor that enables its use in all situations. Revolving around a large 12 megapixel 2/3 X-Trans CMOS II sensor and EXR Processor II the XQ1 is capable of producing high-resolution still imagery and full HD video with notable low-light sensitivity to ISO 12800. The EXR Processor II also affords a wealth of speed throughout the XQ1 including a top continuous shooting rate of 12 frames per second 1 second startup time 0.015 seconds shutter lag time and a shooting-interval time of 0.3 seconds. A versatile built-in Fujinon 4x optical zoom lens which provides a 35mm equivalent focal length of 25-100mm covering wide-angle to short telephoto perspectives. This range of focal lengths is accentuated by an f/1.8-4.9 maximum aperture for enhanced low-light performance at the wide end of the zoom range and additionally a three-stop-equivalent lens-shift type image stabilization system also benefits working with longer focal lengths and slower shutter speeds. Intelligent Hybrid AF combines both phase and contrast-detection autofocus types in order to achieve focus in as little as 0.06 second with high accuracy and subject-tracking capabilities to suit working with fast-moving subjects. This advanced focusing system carries over and proves to be especially beneficial when recording full HD 1080p video at up to 60 fps with full stereo sound. Additional features of the XQ1 included; minimal overall design with aesthetic textured accents; control dial; Super Intelligent pop-up flash; and a large 3.0 920k-dot LCD monitor with a wide 170-degree viewing angle.

  • The Best Compact At This Price

So lets get this out of the way, yes the Sony RX100 is a better overall compact, enthusiast camera, I'm not putting the XQ1 above it. The RX100 however is about $250 more than the XQ1 so in the sub $250 price range, this is the best compact enthusiast camera out there. The image quality is fantastic, the power-on and shutter response time are lightning quick. You have the RAW file format available as well as the ability to control exposure manually. The control ring is nice and fluid with just enough stiffness that you won't adjust it without meaning to do so. Shooting monochrome with this camera is a wonderful experience. Whatever algorithm Fuji uses to process monochrome leaves rich tones when you've got your exposure right. On the down side the zoom is a little short at 100mm and the battery life is a little short. So why does it still get four stars from me? It's a compact camera, I don't need the reach from a camera like this, I use it more for street/documentary style shooting. If I need length, I'll want something I can shoot wide open at high shutter speeds and opt for a DSLR. I don't think the focal length limits the ability of this camera. As for the battery life, I typically carry a spare or two for any camera I walk around with and spares for this camera are readily available for little money. The only other knock (and it's really not a knock at this price) is the drop off in Aperture as you zoom; it's pretty quick. While you have 1.8, it's only wide open at the widest focal length a quickly jumps to 4.9. I'm ok with those trade-offs at this price. I would say if you had $450-$500 to spend, grab the Sony as it is everything this Fuji is plus it doesn't have the short comings listed here with the Fuji. However if this is the top of your budget, don't overthink it; you'll make beautiful photos with this camera.
