those of you who are acquainted with Terry Brooks via his previous writings might be slightly apprehensive of this master of "sword and sorcerer" fantasy writing in such a diametrically opposed genre. Do not be. Brooks has applied his usual descriptive facility and typical flexibility of skill to this dual tale of a young boy finding himself and the battle against an oppressive regime. The book is without doubt equally as good as anything else he has written and to those with knowledge of the tale (as if anyone does not) it provides ample insights into the character of the slave boy who would become first the Jedi Anakin then the sith lord Vader. it does equally well in showing the early machinations of those who would create the empire.
