  • Best $0.99 antenna ever

OK, so you do kind of get what you pay 99 cents for. For me there does not seem to be a terrific difference with RX to the stock rubber duck, TX maybe a little weaker. The thing is it's very small. Much smaller than you might imagine looking at the pics so for that reason alone it's worth 99 cents. I hear people say that they are hitting local repeaters at 40 miles or something but they must have much better conditions than I do. Not very good tuning local FM music stations either but again not much difference than the stock antenna and you do at least get something. So if small size is important to you over RX/TX this might be a good way to spend 99 cents. If you're expecting miracles and it flops you've only wasted $0.99. For me just the fun for testing an antenna that is about 1/2 the length of my pinky was worth it. I will use it in the future especially if making the radio pocketable is something I need to do. My local NOAA broadcasts sound great with this antenna installed but they also sound great without any antenna so that's really not much of an endorsement. BTW using on a Baofeng UV5R+.

  • Small but low efficiency

I like this antenna as it makes the whole radio more mobile. Nothing is tickling between the ribs but, what do you expect, the antenna is very small and with that comes low efficiency. I would not recommend to use it on high power, at least not for long periods at it gets hot. I have no idea what the SWR is, another thing to consider as I don't know how resilient the radio itself is. Good value and nice format as it makes it a lot easier to carry the radio around.

  • Excellent for short range

Because of its short length the range is limited. This may be useful when you want privacy and don't want the signal to be heard too far. With stock antenna I could work a VHF repeater 8 miles line of sight with 1 watt. With this antenna no response with 1 watt The short length fits in my pocket better. When you desire longer range, use a longer antenna. I use an extendable rod antenna. Used with Baofeng UV5R transceiver.

  • Pretty good for the money

One suggestion right of the bat is don't drop the radio with this antenna on it but receives better than the stock antenna that came with my radio but it has held up since i did a little repair to keep it from falling apart (small hairline crack) but it has still proved to be a good stubby antenna

  • These are okay *UHF* antennas. VHF = DEAD AIR. Good for when radios on charger.

JUST ONLY GET THESE FOR UHF. Honestly, this antenna is rather deaf for VHF. Although I primarily got this as something to use on my radios while charging or in storage, in order to not have large antennas all over the place, it DOES work decently for UHF repeaters. With UHF simplex, while still relatively short range, it still EXCEEDED my expectations. Shipping was INSANELY fast. Ship in an ePacket and arrived from China in only SIX days -- a new record! Now for caveat: 146-148Mhz appears to be "dead space", so if you won't to use repeaters in those areas, forget it. Even a strong VHF signal like NOAA at 162.xx is DEAD AIR. I only mainly use them for my radios to have something on the antenna port while they are charging, however. I have quite a number of both SMA-F and SMA-M versions of this antenna as I have many (14) HT radios: Yaesu, TYT, BTech, Baofeng. Luiton, etc. I have a LOT of these little antennas, as I have a lot of HT’s. A couple more just arrived and I noted that these ones came with grey lettering for “SRH805S” on them and they do not say “Diamond”, however I noted no difference in performance (still lack of VHF) from the previous ones with blue lettering and “Diamond” branding. Honestly, I’m skeptical that ANY of these (grey or blue) are made by Diamond, at least not the Diamond that is known for outstanding antennas. Just take these for what they are, a means of greatly reducing the operating size while still being able to get adequate performance out of NEARBY UHF REPEATERS. If you are expecting good simplex performance, you are likely going to be disappointed. Come on, these things are just a buck each!

  • Surprisingly good!

I admit, when I bought this antenna I had pretty low expectations for its quality and ability. It surprised me. I live in an area with lots of repeaters and I'm able to hit of them all with this little antenna on a cheap handheld. It's obviously not gonna be great for really long distance transmissions, but great for around town and short range simplex. I plan on buying more

  • Stubby Baofeng antenna

Works but not as well as the regular antenna. I personally use the 17" antenna for my uv5r but this stubby antenna works great for my $10 frequency counter from eBay

  • Handi Stubby

In Ham talk a shortened VHF/UHF Dual band Antenna is called a Stubby, This is a great one. I worked a repeater 40 Miles away on 2 Meters at 1 watt full quieting. so it works great on my The secret is the antenna to any two way Radio Communications. This is a great such Antenna. Boafeng UV-5RA+ on low power had a buddy check the SWR on it it's a 1 to 1 you can't get better than that for the price Less than 2 Bucks shipped ......73....Sam/KO6JQ

  • Great little antenna

I love these little multi-band antennas. Very compact, receives well. I think that the transmission may not be as good as a standard antenna. Nevertheless, it makes your handheld radio or scanner much smaller overall.

  • Stubby

Great antenna for close range or with a nearby repeater. When using simplex just remember, it's a really short antenna and performs as such.
