The tool does the job
This tool will indeed remove your old cigarette lighter but you have to know what you are doing...depending on your vehicle. I have a 1996 Tahoe but I could not find any instructions on how to remove the cigarette lighter on my vehicle. Newer cigarette lighters (or some) require one to pull out the old cigarette lighter and then disconnecting the power wires as well. Mine was not the case. My cigarette lighter does not pull out as it is screwed onto the power supply. In addition, my cigarette lighter has a ground wire attached to it. I had to first remove the case housing of my cigarette lighter and two auxiliary receptacles on each side of it. (I first removed the fuse to the cigarette lighter and another fuse to the auxiliary receptacles...very important). Once I had access, I used the tool to unscrew the cigarette lighter after I unplugged the ground wire. I then inserted the new cigarette lighter into the housing from the outside; then from the inside, I screwed the cigarette lighter into the power supply and then connected the ground wire. I then reinserted the fuses to test the lighter. Once I confirmed the lighter was working, I re-secured the housing. Bottom line, the tool does the job but one has to know what they are doing...it all depends on the vehicle. The tool did the job by not pulling out the lighter but unscrewing the lighter from the power supply... involving for me quite an extensive operation. Good luck!

Great power port / cigarette lighter installation & removal tool
This power port (cigarette lighter) tool is definitely worth buying. It is a great value compared to Kent-Moore or Dorman tools. The tool ensures that the power port is tightened sufficiently so that it won't rattle loose over time. This is why I bought this tool. It also loosens the socket for service or replacement. It is nice and thick so it doesn't bent or twist. It is made from lazer cut stainless steel. It is an exact fit. You must be carefull using it so it does not slip out of the socket holes. It has to be small to insert into the socket.
