I ordered this to get a station that was not close to me-so I was hoping for good reception. After the antenna and position of the radio-I got it tuned in. (I live in a mobile home which reduces radio signals a lot. The only PROBLEM . cked out instructions-pluged in AC cord-turned it on and got a humming noise-that would not go away. I thought about returning it (I probably would get another one that did the same thing) I went to the dollar store and bought 2 packs of the good 1-1/2 volt batteries-come home-it works fine.. I will keep and use it-but there is something wrong with the AC use of it. I hope all the other people that buy this don't have the same problem.--Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Great General Use Radio
This radio can sound off loud and receives FM really well. AM seems to receive decent enough but the short wave is lacking. Antenna design most likely holds back the short wave reception. Band selection knob works but is difficult to dial in at times. There is some knob float (settles slightly differently than let off) and it can get hung up because of the "needle" is only attached on one side and floats on the frequency legend. Overall a great radio for the price and I use it frequently to listen to local FM stations. Great battery life at low volumes and great standard "radio" sound.

Good little radio, but not elegant quality in sound.
This little radio is fine for what I needed it for. It's just that trying to regulate the volume is a little difficult. It's difficult to keep it from going really loud when you think you've got it just the right volume. So you have to work with it to get it not to be way too loud. However, I like it and would recommend it if you want it for a little radio in the kitchen while you're running water, washing dishes, doing kitchen stuff, and need some "entertainment." just so-so
the dial is hard to move. Stations are unpredictable.....one time they work....maybe at night they don't. Not consistant. Lots of static and interferences. Speaker clarity is poor and sounds are tinny. I'm not that happy with it but it's better then nothing and better then battery driven and the d batteries are expensive so I don't use it by them but by ac power. Since I can't afford a better ac radio I have to be satisfied with poor performance. The volume is not consistant. Keeps changing on its own and I have to keep my fingers on it to keep it from being so loud that it disturbs my neighbors. Almost perfect
Absolutely the best reception of any transistor radio! Picks up stations 50 miles away in all kinds of weather even with antenna all the way down and folded over. Good sound for such a small unit. It's built poorly. My radio looked like it was used. Lots of scuffs and scratches. It does work well but if your planning on using it as a portable it's lifespan will be limited. A whole lot more than I was expecting.
Yes it is a cheap radio at $20. I was not expecting much, but it performed much better than I was expecting it would. On the first night I got AM stations many hundreds of miles away from my house. Shortwave reception is as shortwave always is, and I picked up stations in other parts of the world. I live in Indianapolis Indiana and I was able to pick up the voice of Vietnam, radio China, and radio Havana. I have several vintage shortwave radios such as a Zenith Oceanic and of course they are better radios than this, but then of course these cost the equivalent of thousands of dollars in their day. If someone wants to get a good taste of short wave and excellent AM on a budget this is the one to get. The FM is just fine as well.
