i'm not an expert on recorders or any wind instrument, but i know sound, and i have a good sense of the quality of things; and i do have 2 other recorders. i bought these just to add some texture to my music.
that said, this will serve me well. it's easy to play clean notes. it fits together neatly and it feels like it has more substance to it than my other soprano recorder. i showed it to a friend who's father played recorders and he said "very nice...that's a good instrument".
it sounds great but i'm not qualified to comment on the "warmer" sound that some people claim for it. it does sound mellower than my other soprano, but then that's a $3. plastic recorder! (mellower does not mean quieter by the way)
...nor am i qualified to comment on the fingering. it's fine for me but i don't have a preference for either hole configuration. it works.
my one and insignificant wish is that it were a different color! i don't consider it visually attractive. it could be better if it were darker brown...maybe reddish brown; dark grey (like ebony) would be beautiful; or maybe black.
it is,however, prettier than the photograph on ebay suggests.
i think you should go for it! - yes it's several times more expensive than some others, but really,it's still not much money.
