Made from Long Staple Egyptian Cotton. Ideal for detailed machine embroidery, red work, quilting, lace design and serging. This thread has really taken off with machine quilters. Long staple cotton gives this thread the strength needed for highs speed machines. Cotton Mako is also mercerized, giving it a sheen not found in most cotton threads.

  • It's Not The Cheapest - Thankfully!

Have you ever noticed that there's a constant race to the bottom where pricing is concerned? I'm a careful shopper, like anybody who isn't wealthy with money to burn. I'm not a young man anymore. I dare say I've gained at least a modicum of wisdom as a shopper/consumer in my life. eBay's search pages are loaded with low-price, made-in-Asia cotton threads. They look great. The colors look beautiful. The amount you get for amazingly low prices is sooooooooo tempting!! I know because I got suckered in and bought those for my wife back when she started getting really serious about sewing after we'd retired. She was very excited to have so much thread in so many yummy colors. She said she felt like a kid in a candy shop - until the problems arose, that is. Problems like loads of thread "dust" building up inside the bobbin area, which caused jamming issues. Then there were all sorts of tension problems and, worst of all, thread breaking when you least expected. That often caused real visual problems with her projects. It wasn't long before my wife told me to NEVER, EVER buy that junk thread again!! I obeyed. That's when I started looking at somewhat more costly thread, and finally discovered Aurifil thread on the more economical 1,422 yard spools. In the 5 years, or so, since then, Aurifil is the only cotton thread my wife uses. All the aforementioned problems encountered with the cheap threads has virtually evaporated away. I won't lie. There is no brand of thread in the entire world that performs with total perfection all of the time. For that matter, no brand of any product is always perfect. But, where thread is concerned, AurifiI comes as close as possible to that lofty goal, in my humble opinion. I highly recommend Made-In-Italy Aurifil cotton thread with total confidence!
